With top free agents being locked up early and draft picks currently working out their deals, it may be easy to forget that there are still some free agents worth taking a look at. Here are the top free agents still available and can make an impact on their new team this fall.
As of right now Ryan Fitzpatrick still has not signed with the New York Jets. The Jets are the most likely place for Fitzpatrick to sign, especially with Chan Gailey controlling the offense. The Jets already had decent starting wide receivers in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker last season, but now they have a playmaker in the backfield with running back Matt Forte. Look for Fitzpatrick to be a Jet when camp opens up.
The 29-year-old running back is still rehabbing a ruptured Achilles tendon and has missed 23 of his last 40 games. Arian Foster is definitely not going to be able to be the every day back he once was, but he should still be able to help a team as a backup role player. It would be worth the risk for a team to take a chance on him. The problem is the teams that had the most interest in him early in free agency (Dolphins, Seahawks, and Broncos) have all added running backs in the draft this past April.
Boldin is coming off a solid season even at the age of 35, with 69 catches for 789 yards and four touchdowns for the 49ers last season. Even though the San Francisco is in much need of adding depth at the wide receiver position, the two sides have not come to terms on a new deal. It is possible that Boldin wants to play for a contender for this last few years in hopes of winning a Super Bowl. Despite Boldin’s age, he is more than capable of having another productive year.
