Week 1 was filled with surprises, but these five players jumped out as the biggest daily fantasy football surprises of the bunch.
A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals ($8,400)
He’s on the list after For The Win suggested that those who play daily fantasy football should stay away from him since he would be matched up with Darrelle Revis. Boy, were they wrong. Green exploded for 12 receptions, 180 yards and one touchdown. That stat line gave him a total of 39 points on DraftKings. His next opponent is against the Pittsburgh Steelers who currently rank in the bottom-five of the NFL in pass defense. It will cost a pretty penny ($8,900) to use him in your Week 2 lineup.
Brandin Cooks/ Willie Snead, New Orleans Saints ($7,700/$4,800)
Since the run game for the Saints was not working against the Oakland Raiders, Drew Brees had to look for other options. This duo shredded the Raiders secondary. Brandin Cooks finished with six receptions, 143 yards and two touchdowns, while Willie Snead finished with nine receptions, 172 yards and one touchdown. Those stat lines gave them a total of 36.4 points and 35.2 points respectively on DraftKings. Predictably the price for both players has increased in Week 2, with Cooks at $8,000 and Snead at $5,800.
Mike Wallace, Baltimore Ravens ($4,200)
In the week leading up to the Ravens/Bills match up much of the conversation was focused on the running game. The Ravens cut Justin Forsett only to re-sign him a few days later. There wasn’t much discussed about the wide receiver group. Mike Wallace is a new addition to the team this season and his debut went well. He finished with three receptions, 91 yards and one touchdown. That stat line gave him a total of 19.2 points on DraftKings. It will be interesting to see if the chemistry can build in Week 2 as the Ravens take on the Cleveland Browns. His price has increased to $4,700 but could potentially be used if you need an inexpensive play.
Will Fuller, Houston Texans ($3,700)
Will Fuller is considered the No. 2 wide receiver on the depth chart for the Houston Texans but he led the team in receptions in Week 1. He was targeted more than Hopkins since he predominately went up against single coverage. The Notre Dame rookie was able to make the most of his opportunities and finished with five receptions, 107 yards and one touchdown. That stat line gave him a total of 24.7 points. If Hopkins continues to be the focus of secondaries around the league, then continue to look for Fuller to have a good amount of points for his price. His price jumped up to $4,200 in Week 2 as he goes up against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Tajae Sharpe, Tennessee Titans ($3,000)
Tajae Sharpe was on Last Call Football’s Plays of the Week last week, so we loved seeing this. Rishard Matthews is Tennessee’s No. 1 wide receiver but his Week 1 performance was pretty dismal. Sharpe outshined him with seven receptions and 76 yards. That stat line gave him a total of 14.6 fantasy points. It will be an exciting season if he can continue to be targeted the most on his team. His price has already jumped to $4,100 for Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. If this game is like the Lions’ game against the Indianapolis Colts, then look for Sharpe to be targeted a fair amount more.
