Wide receiver Danny Amendola is the latest player to accept a pay cut to stay with the New England Patriots. We have seen players take less money before in the past, but Amendola ended up giving up a cool $4.4 million to make sure he stays on the Patriots.
That’s right, Amendola was reportedly set to make up to $6 million this season. That is a huge pay cut from a veteran wide out, but Amendola was happy to do it. He even gave an explanation to 98.5 the Sports Hub why on Tuesday,
I feel like we’re always pretty deep going into every season. Every team, they try to stack their [roster] up and see what roles each guy can kind of fill out. That’s no different this year. We have a lot of talent in our room. And a lot of guys that are ready to make plays.
Most importantly, I love this city. I love playing for the Pats. And I love the atmosphere that coach Belichick creates everyday. That’s ultimately why I want to play here.
I can understand his thinking. He gets to play with Tom Brady and has pretty good chances to win the Super Bowl this season.
Amendola did not have the same role he once did but even with Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman getting most of the catches he still finished last season with 65 catches for 648 yards.
Now ask yourself, would you be able to pass up that kind of money if you were in Amendola’s cleats?
