New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall says he is “100 percent confident” in quarterback Geno Smith as the New York Jets starter, according to Darryl Slater of the NJ Advance Media for NJ.com.
A hundred percent confident in Geno. I think he’s grown so much from the first conversation I had with him, before I got traded [from Chicago last offseason], and also since [early] last year when we were roommates. He’s an ultimate pro right now.
Smith will most likely be the starting quarterback when the season begins considering his competition is Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg.
Marshall has previously been vocal earlier this offseason about wanting to make sure the team resigns Ryan Fitzpatrick who is still a free agent. There is still no word if the Jets and Fitzpatrick are close in negotiations.
It is good to see Marshall supporting his potential quarterback, unlike general manager Mike Maccagnan:
"I like having him, as of right now, as our No. 2 quarterback," Maccagnan says of Geno Smith. Adds that he's technically No. 1 right now.
